A new school year is always a time for new beginnings, new discoveries, and exciting learning experiences. Learning is not limited to the classroom. Children learn best when they are given opportunities to explore, experience, and discover the world around them.
To begin the 2026–2027 school year, our Kindy A and Kindy B children from Skoebi-do Sanur and Skoebi-do Canggu went on an exciting educational excursion to Teba Sari Chocolate Plantation and Experience in Ubud.
It was a wonderful day filled with nature, exploration, creativity, and, of course, chocolate!
Our adventure began with an exploration of the plantation. The children had the opportunity to see and learn about a variety of plants and natural ingredients that are part of everyday life and are used in different food-making processes.
Among the plants they discovered were cacao, cloves, chilies, turmeric, coffee, and many others. 🌱
For many children, seeing these plants growing naturally was a completely different experience from simply seeing the finished products in shops or at home. They were able to observe the plants up close, touch and explore their surroundings, and learn where some of the ingredients they know actually come from.
Most importantly, they were introduced to the cacao plant itself and learned that the chocolate we enjoy begins as a fruit growing on a tree.
One of the most valuable parts of the excursion was learning about the journey of cacao—from the fruit growing on the tree to the chocolate that we eventually enjoy.
The children were able to discover that making chocolate involves several different stages and processes. This helped turn something familiar, like a chocolate bar, into a fascinating learning experience.
Instead of simply learning about chocolate through pictures or books, the children could see the plants, learn about the process, and experience part of chocolate-making themselves.
This is exactly the kind of learning experience we value at Skoebi-do: learning that is connected to the real world.
And then came the most exciting part of the day—making their very own chocolate! 🍫
The children had the opportunity to participate in the chocolate-making process by working with molds and creating their own chocolate pieces. With lots of excitement and concentration, they shaped and decorated their creations before waiting to see the final result.
There was something especially rewarding about watching the children proudly look at the chocolate they had made themselves.
And the best part?
They got to take their homemade chocolate creations home! 🤎
This excursion was much more than a fun day out. It was an opportunity for the children to develop a deeper understanding of nature, food, and the world around them.

A classroom provides children with an important foundation for learning, but the world outside the classroom offers endless opportunities to make that learning meaningful. By visiting real places and experiencing real processes, children can connect what they learn at school with the world around them.
Our visit to Teba Sari was a beautiful example of this approach. The children didn’t just hear about cacao—they saw it growing. They didn’t just learn that chocolate is made from cacao—they experienced part of the process themselves. And they didn’t just learn about making chocolate—they created their own.
With happy faces, chocolate-filled hands, and their homemade creations to bring home, our children returned from the excursion with wonderful memories and a little more understanding of the natural world.
